Pool filter selector valve functions

Emptying:When the lever is in the empty position, the water is sent directly from the pool to the drain without going through the filter. When the pump starts, it sucks water from the bottom sump, taking it out directly through the installation's drainage pipe, make sure that it does not suck from the skimmers. With this option you can empty the pool completely or only partially, and thus renew the water.

Filtration:When it is in the filtration position, which is the position in which it must always be, during the time set aside for purifying the pool water, in this position the pump will take the water from the skimmers and the bottom and will make it pass through the sand filter. This position makes the entire filtering circuit in the pool. Once the water is filtered, it is returned to the pool through the discharge nozzles.

Care recommendations:When the handle is placed in the washing position, it washes the sand from the filter. In this process, the dirty water is discarded into the drain. Apart from keeping the sand clean, it leaves it looser and breaks the filtration channels that have been generated during filtration. After this step, a sand rinsing process must always be carried out so as not to send dirty water into the pool.

Rinse:When the lever is in the rinse position that is always used after having carried out a sand filter washing process, the water used in this process is sent to the drain as it may contain dirt from the filter due to backwashing. After rinsing, you can start the filtration process and leave it until the next cleaning.

Recirculation:The position of the recirculation handle is used in cases where the aim is to circulate the pool water without passing it through the sand filter. In this position of the handle, the water will not pass through the sand filter, but will pass directly from the skimmers and the bottom drain to the pool through the impellers, without filtering. The water cannot be without moving, therefore it is advisable to use this position of the valve when repairing the filter, replacing sand or dosing chemicals.

Closed:When the handle is in the closed position, it means that it will not allow the passage of water to the sand filter, this position is used for repairs and when the pool is going to remain inactive for long periods, since in this position it closes the circuit by complete and if the pump were to start, it could burn out the pump. This position is used in the event of a leak.

Recommendations on the use of the selector valve

  • To avoid water hammer and overpressure in the system, it is necessary to change the position of the selector valve with the pump disconnected.
  • It is important that you carefully read the instructions for use of the equipment before using the selector valve.

Sand cleaning process when the pressure gauge shows yellow / red

  1. Turn off the pump.
  2. Press the lever and turn to the wash position.
  3. Start the pump.
  4. Check through the transparent viewer that the water moves and comes out dirty.
  5. Make sure the drain or sewer system does not overflow.
  6. When the water that passes through the sight glass becomes transparent “this should not take more than 1 or 2 minutes, stop the pump.
  7. Press the lever and turn to the rinse position.
  8. Turn on the pump, and hold for 20-30 seconds.
  9. Turn off the pump and turn the handle to the filtration position.
  10. Check that the pressure gauge is in the 0.5-1atm green zone.

Pool maintenance

Proper control and maintenance of the pool allows it to be kept in optimal conditions for use throughout the bathing season and also during the winter season, guaranteeing perfect operation and reuse of water year after year.

A well studied and designed residential or private pool needs less than 30 minutes of maintenance per week, if we use the right products and equipment, which automate and simplify this process, such as pool cleaners, robots, as well as chemical regulation and control equipment. .

When it comes to keeping the pool in optimal conditions, we not only have to control the healthiness and clarity of the water. Aspects such as safety, the type of chemical products used, the machine room or the perimeter fence of the pool are of great importance for the pool to be a safe place for leisure.

What tasks must we perform daily to maintain our pool?

  1. Clean the water surface of leaves, insects and other suspended objects.
  2. Analyze the pH values and adjust them to values between 7,2 and 7,6. If the control and regulation system is automatic, we must calibrate it if a substantial deviation in the pH level is detected.
  3. Analyze the levels of free residual chlorine and adjust the values between 0.8 ppm and 1.1 ppm. If manual or automatic product dispensers are used, adjust or calibrate them so that these levels of disinfectant are maintained.

What tasks should we perform weekly to maintain our pool?

  1. Check the suction intakes such as bottom drains, skimmer baskets and pool cleaner intakes or the overflow channel if the pool is overflowing.
  2. Clean the prefilters of both the pump and the skimmers to prevent dirt from accumulating and reducing filtering performance.
  3. Check the pressure of the sand filter and carry out the sand washing operation if necessary, that is, when the pressure gauge indicates yellow/red. This process is essential to keep the filter bed in good condition, clean and fluffy and to obtain high filtering efficiency.
  4. Clean the bottom and walls of the pool using the cleaning equipment we have, whether manual or automatic, sweepers or robots.
  5. Add the maintenance dose of the anti-algae or flocculant product when necessary.
  6. Replace the chlorine tablets in the skimmers or disinfectant dosing equipment.
  7. Check the levels of the reserve tanks for the regulation of pH, disinfectant and flocculant in the case of automatic dosing of chemical products.

  1. Hello, my question is if I can empty the pool having only half a pool with water and without
    Have never started the pump.

    • Good,
If the pump works if you can empty the pool, just keep in mind that you should leave open only the valve that comes from the pool sump.

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.
