Today there are different water purification processes: with chlorine, filters with a bed, filters with activated carbon, water softeners. One of the most used systems at the domestic level is that of osmosis reverse.

Before being consumed or used in certain industrial processes, the water it must be purified.

What is the inverse osmosis

La Inverse osmosis is a water purification process consisting of applying pressure to make the water pass through a membrane.

In doing so, the water is separated from the salt particles it may contain, leaving behind impurities and becoming clean water suitable for human consumption.

We explain this process in more detail in one of our post What can you find in the blog.

Equipment needed to perform reverse osmosis at home

Osmosis equipment has different parts that are dedicated to different types of filtering. The most common is to find teams of domestic osmosis of three or five filtered, but there are up to seven.

Each stage of filtering requires filters y membranes specific. In addition, a pressure pump, a tank, connectors and a tap are also required.

Water purification in five stages:

? The process begins with a sediment filtering. Here the larger particles, such as lime or small sand granules, are dislodged.

? Afterwards, the activated carbon filter in granular format is responsible for separating smaller particles that are still in the water.

? A second activated carbon filter, in this case carbon dust, removes even more impurities that have passed through the two previous filters.

? The water reaches a semi-permeable membrane. This has a great filtering power and can eliminate more than 95% of the harmful residues that are still in the flow, such as bacteria and chlorine macroparticles.

? A final granulated carbon filter removes the last impure debris from the water.

Maintenance of an osmosis equipment

Usually these osmosis equipment They are usually located on the taps of the kitchens of the houses. This means that its use is daily and sometimes intensive.

The continuous use of this equipment also requires a maintenance common as it is drinking water and reviews should not be ignored.

To carry out any type of maintenance that includes the disconnection of any part of the osmosis equipment, it must be completely emptied.

In addition, it is necessary to work according to all hygiene measures and use gloves to prevent dirt from the outside entering the system and contaminating the water.

? The components of an osmosis equipment that require to be changed more frequently are:

? The first stage filter, the sediment filter, where it accumulates large particles. It should be changed at least every nine months. Otherwise it can accumulate too much dirt and stop fulfilling its function.

? Carbon filters are damaged by chlorine in the water. To avoid situations in which the filters have lost their effectiveness, the filters should be changed every 7 or 9 months.

? The semi-permeable membrane is an essential part of the filtration process. This membrane can be cleaned every 4 months and it is advisable to change it every 2 or 3 years.

A filter it is not changed when it must be replaced, the other filters may be affected. By not doing your part of the job and filtering, the dirt gets into downstream filters, which are unable to treat it and can become clogged and lose efficiency much earlier than normal.

In short, all filters should be changed at least once a year and the membrane every two.

It is highly recommended that, in addition to changing the filters when necessary, a total disinfection of the equipment is also carried out.

The process consists of inserting a sanitizing compound that cleans all cavities:

? The water must first be purged.

? The filters and filter holders are removed.

? The filter holders, membrane and membrane holder are washed.

? Everything is assembled again and the disinfectant is inserted.

? The tank is closed, the water outlet is covered so that it accumulates in the tank and the liquid is allowed to act for 30 minutes.

? It is purged again and the filters are reinstalled.

? Finally, the tap is left open for a while so that the equipment works again and osmotic water comes out.

In places where the water is very hard, an osmosis equipment saves on the bill, since we can consume and cook with it instead of having to resort to bottled water.
