All the bilge pumps They are electrical machines that are used mainly to extract water. This type of machine is usually made up of a motor that provides enough energy to extract the water. It usually has a housing that serves to protect said motor from external damage.

Its uses can be multiple, from draining water in pools to empty them, wells, ponds and in those places flooded as a result of heavy rains.

The machine usually extracts the water at its base. A screen will prevent the passage of particles that could damage it. This water will be filtered and transported through a tube or hose.

En Mundoriego you can find different types of bilge pumps: stainless steel pumps y plastic pumps. Choosing one or the other will depend on the model, characteristics and power of each of them.

In some cases, such as the extraction of water from swimming pools, this water can be reused to be used for irrigation of agricultural areas.

One of the uses could be to drain the water from a swimming pool, for example. They can extract liquids at a maximum of 40 ° C. Stainless steel bilge pumps can also be submerged to a maximum of 8 meters. This depth may vary depending on the pump model.

Plastic bilge pumps are recommended for domestic use. These pumps are ideal for evacuating water in the event of flooding in garages, for example. This type of pump can be submerged up to 5 meters deep and withstand temperatures of up to 35 ° C.

Factors to consider before choosing a bilge pump

Before choosing one type of pump or another, it will be important to take into account some factors that will determine which is the most suitable.

Particle size: It will be essential to consider the size of the particles that we need to evacuate. If we use the bilge pump to extract water from a flooded land, for example, we must bear in mind that there may be stones or suspended particles of different sizes.

Type of water: It is also possible that the water to be evacuated is drinking water, in order for it to be consumed. For example, to extract water from a cistern to supply a home.

In this case, the water will be completely clean and free of sediment. Contrary to what would happen if we use the pump to extract stagnant water or sludge. For this reason, the pump for one case or another must be totally different.

Submersible: Another aspect to consider is whether or not the pump can be submerged. When choosing a bilge pump to eliminate flooding in entrances, garages, premises ... it is best to select a submersible pump.

Power: One of the most important factors is the power of the bilge machine depending on the use that we are going to give it. This will facilitate the dewatering task regardless of the needs.

Likewise, when transporting water, it must have sufficient power and that the tube to transport the water is long enough to take it to its destination.

  1. Hello. I have a sloping plot, and in the center a cistern of about 8000 liters. The trees in the lower part are irrigated by their own feet, taking advantage of the unevenness. But the trees in the upper part, with a drop of about 4 meters, need water brought from the cistern. In that area there are also 4 faucets and the irrigation is by drip, through polyethylene pipes of 32, 25 and 14. Altogether this can mean about 100 meters of pipe, but it is compartmentalized by stopcocks and I can alternate the irrigation. I don't need excessive pressure. I would like to know what type of pump do you recommend.
