Venturi-type injectors: when and why they are used

The Venturi type injectors use the speed and pressure of a fluid to introduce chemicals into irrigation systems, without the need for an electrical installation.

Fertigation

La fertigation consists of introducing nutrients into the soil through irrigation water. These fertilizers dissolve in the flow that is going to be used as irrigation for the crop, allowing to unite two processes (irrigation and fertilizer) in one. The main advantage of this technique is that it uses the irrigation network to deliver the fertilizers to the entire crop, without requiring more facilities or other processes. Only a Venturi type injector has to be installed. It also helps nutrients to be assimilated faster and crop yields improve.

In fertigation, a venturi injector is in charge of introducing the fertilizers and manures that you want to get to the crop. It is usually installed in crops of small size and / or in which access to electrical current does not exist, since they do not need any type of external impulse to function. 

 

 

 

Pest elimination

The Venturi injector can be useful for eliminating pests that may appear on crops. The use of this type of injectors makes possible the controlled introduction of substances in liquid form in the field with great precision. Pests must be treated efficiently and with the right pesticide levels, since a lower or higher amount of these substances could be harmful. If less pesticide is applied than necessary, the negative effects on the crop could be prolonged and, if it is applied in excess, it could damage both the plant and its environment. 

It must be taken into account not to mix pesticides and fertilizers, since the combination of both could result in an unstable compound.

 

Avoid clogging drippers

All the dropper clogs present great problems in crops. The water that passes through the droppers can contain particles or carry substances that precipitate and obstruct the small crevices present in them, causing them to clog and preventing the flow from reaching its destination. If a dropper does not work as it should, the water reaching the plants can vary and damage to the crop can occur. 

One way to avoid clogs in the dripper system is to use chemicals that clean the water of harmful elements that can build up and clog the dripper. If the plugging is caused by the action of precipitation of calcium carbonates and sulphates, one of the ways to solve the problem is to make a correction in the pH of the flow. For this, it is recommended to use a Venturi injector that introduces a pH corrector into the flow. The injector will allow the regulator to act very precisely, avoiding the formation of blockages in the dripper.

 

Water oxygenation

An injector of these characteristics may also be useful for oxygenate water like that of a pond or an artificial lake. If the oxygen is increased in this type of water, it helps them to remain clean for a longer time, preventing the stored water from stagnating, becoming anoxic and the appearance of harmful microorganisms that cause diseases.
