Watertight Pits

The watertight pit is the urban wastewater storage system. It consists of tanks that accumulate and store this black water, without treating it or carrying out any purification treatment, preventing it from being dumped and infiltrating into the ground.

The need to install a sewage collection system in this modality is due to situations in which the land is located in areas vulnerable to nitrate contamination. In these cases, the Hydrographic Confederation of the area or the competent administration does not authorize the infiltration of wastewater from homes if an adequate treatment of these effluents is not carried out, for which it is necessary to store these waters, which later a authorized manager must be in charge of its withdrawal and management.

Likewise, the suitability of this storage equipment and its tightness must be ensured by means of a "watertightness certificate".

How is the installation of the watertight pits?

The watertight pits that we sell are made of high-density polyethylene, whose manufacturing process consists of a single piece by extrusion-blowing, which guarantees its watertightness. The tank, in turn, has a specific design that guarantees its resistance to being buried directly in the ground, without the need to build reinforcements for its cover.

In the first place, the excavation of the pit where the deposit will be located must be carried out. In case of detecting floods or high water table, consult specific instructions in the user guide.

The bottom of the pit must be covered with 10 cm of compact sand (or stabilized sand in particular cases). It is important to bear in mind that the pit is installed in a completely horizontal position, so the bed must be completely flat and horizontal, free of objects that could pierce the base of the tank.

After placing the tank, the lateral filling is carried out, leaving a minimum thickness between the tank and the wall of 0,20 m. Simultaneously with the capping, the water tank must be filled to balance the pressures in the lateral compaction process.

The access and registration covers must be at ground level to facilitate their accessibility.

The tanks can be equipped with a top vent with a recommended minimum diameter of ø110mm, in order to evacuate the gases from anaerobic fermentations. It can be done from the appropriate area for drilling that integrates the equipment on the inlet side or by placing a Y or T (ø110mm) in the tube that carries the water to be treated to the equipment (recommended option). The ventilation pipe must be as straight as possible and must end in a high and ventilated place.

The planting of any plant material above the installation is not allowed, nor is the transit of vehicles if the appropriate structure for load distribution has not been carried out.
