Septic tanks, everything there is to know about them

SEPTIC-TANK-CLEANING-1

All the septic tanks they are an indispensable tool in certain situations. Especially in places where there is no urban drainage system. They are necessary for good waste management and that is why they must be present when circumstances demand it.

What are septic tanks and what are they for?

A septic tank is a large container used for treating domestic wastewater.

Inside this container, the separation and physical-chemical transformation of the organic matter that goes into it is carried out, although it is not done as efficiently as it is done in a treatment plant.

The need to use septic tanks comes from the absence of sewage networks in the area that can be used to evacuate waste. This is usually common in rural areas or residences that are far from the urban core.

The septic tank, taking up the story a bit, comes to replace the pit latrines that were used in the past and that posed a great risk to health by making it possible for pathogens derived from faeces to come into contact with running water underground and that it was in common use for humans and animals. In some places, these latrines still exist.

How a septic tank works

The idea of how a septic tank works is that, with the least possible flow of water, the solid part of the waste can be deposited in them, releasing the liquid part.

When this has happened, certain aerobic and anaerobic bacteria act on organic matter, decomposing it into its inorganic components and converting part of these solids into matter that is soluble in water.

This system reduces the amount of organic matter and also about 40% oxygen needed to do so. After this process, the water can be returned to nature with less risk to it.

Then, the remaining solid part must be removed from time to time, generally every one or two years, maybe more, depending on the type of pit and the number of users who use it. What is removed must be taken to a place where it can be treated correctly.

Regulations governing the installation of septic tanks

Septic tanks, according to the directives for the protection of the environment, are subject to regulation in the territory of the European Community. They are required to be reviewed and emptied from time to time, depending on their own characteristics, their location and their design.

The process for the removal of the content must be carried out by specialized companies such as industrial cleaning companies that have the corresponding certifications and authorizations.

The waste obtained must be processed in the corresponding facilities, according to the legislation. The most common is that the treatment plants take care of this. Final waste must be disposed of in a way that is also regulated by legislation in competent official bodies.

In any case, it must be taken into account that this regulation can be improved through municipal, regional or state ordinances.

Our septic tank models

Epurbloc septic tanks

This model of septic tank has been manufactured by extrusion-overlapping, which guarantees its tightness and also its permeability. Qualities that have been proven through different tests and very strict quality controls. In all our septic tanks these procedures are carried out to guarantee a perfect operation without risks, and also a good conservation.

The material we have used for its construction is virgin high-density, high-molecular-weight polyethylene, a high-molecular-weight copolymer that has been specifically designed for the manufacture of hollow bodies or large-capacity containers.

SOTRALENTZ brand Epurbloc septic tanks are available in different capacities:

-          1.500 with biological filter for between 3 and 5 inhabitants.

-          2.000 with biological filter for between 4 and 6 inhabitants.

-          3.000 with biological filter for between 6 and 8 inhabitants.

-          4.000 with biological filter for between 8 and 12 inhabitants.

Septic tanks FS

This FS septic tank model, whose manufacturer is SOTRALENTZ, has been manufactured under the same conditions as the previous model. It has been designed through an extrusion-overlapping process that guarantees the watertightness and impermeability of the product, characteristics that have been tested through strict controls.

The difference with the previous ones, the Epurbloc, is that they do not have a biological filter integrated in the outlet device. There are also different septic tanks according to their capacity:

-          FS 1.000 for between 2 and 4 inhabitants

-          FS 1.500 for between 3 and 5 inhabitants

-          FS 2.000 for between 4 and 6 inhabitants

-          FS 3.000 for between 6 and 8 inhabitants

Total oxidation septic tank

This model of septic tank It is an ecological total oxidation treatment plant. It is ideal for treating the domestic wastewater of small and medium-sized communities. These total oxidation equipment comply with the current regulations of the Royal Decree 606/2003 discharge that modifies the Water Law, as well as the European regulations.

The purification system is carried out following three stages: roughing, biological oxidation and decantation.

In roughing the coarse solids that the water has dragged are collected by a grate that is located at the entrance of the equipment. When it comes to small populations, due to the variability of the affluent, the installation of a previous decanter is recommended.

In the biological oxidation process in the biological reactor, the biological decomposition of matter occurs thanks to both the air and the generation of aerobic microorganisms.

Finally, in the decantation, the resulting sludge is deposited inside the decanter, then it is recirculated back to the redactor by pumping in different models.

We have several models of total oxidation septic tanks in our catalogue: Epanbloc and Actibloc by SOTRALENTZ or Necor and Rox by REMOSA.

Any questions you have, you can consult with us and we will advise you without any kind of commitment. Remember that, in addition to the septic tanks themselves, we also have all kinds of accessories.

All these items are shipped with free postage for shipments to the peninsula, and we also have these items at the best price such as: urban garden accessory, nebulization in irrigation, Water pipe o drip irrigation

  1. Kind regards: Please if you can help me what type of septic well can be used for a set of 44 houses with an average of 5 people per house, I have 8 modules of 44 houses each, I need to know if I can replicate the septic well system to each block of houses
For your attention, thank you very much

    • Good morning,
To estimate and advise you on the most appropriate septic tank, we must know the technical prescriptive required by the hydrographic confederation in your area. Since it depends on the type of water quality required by your hydrographic confederation, it can be a biological filter pit or a total oxidation septic tank.

      Sincerely, the Mundoriego team.

  2. Hello
I would like you to inform me about which model I could install in a country house which is very close to a river.
I would like you to install a septic tank which will filter the water and I could use it to irrigate but I am not very clear if it is possible having a river so close.

    Thank you very much,

    Greetings,
    Rafe.

    • Good morning,
The model to be installed together with the authorization for the discharge of water is the responsibility of the hydrographic confederation of the area where it is installed, therefore we advise you to request prior authorization, in this they will indicate the type of pit to install since it may be a pit of total oxidation or pit with biological filter.

      Sincerely, the Mundoriego team.

  3. Good,

I would like to know if to carry out the installation of a septic tank it would also be necessary to have a deposit for the remaining water that remains after having left the waste on its corresponding side or can it be drained on the same land?

    Regards thank you very much.

    • Good,
Septic tanks are used water filters, so they always remain full, and act in such a way that if 5 liters go in, 5 liters come out, depending on the type of pit installed, total oxidation pit or biological filter pit, you can give the water one use or another.
Note: the use of the water that comes out of the septic tanks must be authorized by the hydrographic confederation of your community, they will indicate the type of pit to be installed and the authorized use of it.

      Greetings, the Mundoriego team.

    • Good morning,
We are sorry for the delay in the response but with the state of alarm some unnoticed inquiries have passed.
The pit can be installed overhead but keep in mind that septic tanks are filters so they are always full, they are not accumulation tanks, so if 20 liters enter, 20 liters come out.
If the overhead installation will have to have a manhole with a pump to raise the water to the upper inlet of the tank and the outlet will have to be connected to the sewage system directly or to the infiltration system that it installs.

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.

  4. Good morning, We want to install a septic tank for (? 6 people) Are we looking for an installer? Works according to the law: Spanish legislation in the province of Alicante, please inform us or pass the message on to your specialists
    Thank you

    • Good morning,
There is no autonomic legislation on the model of septic tanks to be installed, since the model to be installed is determined by the hydrographic confederation of the area, in this case I believe that the jurisdiction over continental waters is held by the hydrographic confederation of Jucar, to install a septic tank should be directed to them and request authorization to request the pertinent authorization for the discharge point. With this authorization, they will obtain the type of septic tank to install. The septic tanks can be with a biological filter or a total oxidation pit depending on the technical prescriptive determined by the hydrographic confederation.
The most efficient type of septic tank and the maximum that can be required by the confederation is the model that we indicate below is the one indicated for 6 equivalent inhabitants.
Regarding the installation, there are no specialized companies in its installation since it is a task that any bricklayer and plumber can do by looking at the user manual.

  5. Hello, I live in a country house and I have a prefabricated septic tank with a biological filter, I am going to make a small expansion of the house by adding a bathroom and kitchen, which I need to drain into the pit through an independent collector from the one that already exists. Is it possible to evacuate to the septic tank with two inlet collectors?
Thank you very much in advance

    • Good,
Yes, there is no problem that the effluents come from two collectors, what if we advise you is that the union of the collectors carry them out in a manhole that can be accessed by possible berths.

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.

  6. Thank you very much for your reply.
I have one doubt, I cannot make the union of the two collectors in a box since I need the 2 collectors to attack the septic tank in two directions approximately perpendicular to each other, between the two collectors there would be about 80º, but the meeting is not It is possible to do it outside the septic tank, there is no space, I would need them to rush into the pit with this angle between them, is what worries me, that it may interfere with the evacuation between them, is it possible to do it like this?
Thank you very much for your attention

    • Hello, thank you for trusting us.
It is not advisable to install 90º connections in sanitation because the effluents get clogged. It is not possible to do what you tell us.

      Sincerely, The Mundoriego team.

  7. Hello,
Just a few months ago we changed the septic tank at home, we live in a rural area with an independent and individual septic tank. The new septic tank was installed correctly, it is somewhat larger than the one we had, and it also has two "breathing" outlets or so the manufacturer told us. The problem is that since it was installed there is a very bad smell outside and also in bathrooms and some drains. There are days that more than others but in general, it smells bad all day.
The pit is made of fiber and is buried exposing the upper part with the plugs and outlets. It is located next to the house, 2 or 3 m.
We are desperate because we cannot neutralize it. In fact we are wondering if it would be better to cover those two exits that it has ...
Could you help us detect what the problem is?
    Thank you very much

    • Good,
The ø400 or ø600 plugs are not the breathers, they are the registers for maintenance so you can cover them with a manhole or tighten the thread well. Breathing from the pit has to be done in the tube that enters the reservoir just before with a "T" or "Y" shaped bypass. In this derivation a pipe is installed for the exit and entrance of gases that can be stapled to the wall and raised in the form of a chimney above the house. If it is not possible to raise it to a good height, it is advisable to install a carbon filter to eliminate odors.

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.

  8. Hello! I bought a house in the country and the septic tank has a regulator or I don't know what it is. My question is normal that a red light is on, what does it mean? The house has an irrigation system.

    • Good,
We do not have an answer to your query, we would have to locate the installed septic tank model and obtain the user manual.

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.

  9. Good morning, they installed a filter pit on the land next to my house, but the plumber left only a tube for ventilation, which came at the top ..., now they tell me that this tube is for air intake and that it should have another outlet with a T just before where the water is already being poured onto the ground ..,
It is brand new, but already buried and I would have to put the machine in again to be able to access the lower part ... Is this exit necessary?
    Thank you.

    • We are not installers. We should discuss this with the manufacturer of the pits we supply, as they are not all the same. If you have bought it from us, give us the invoice number and we will give you the information of your pit to the factory so that you can contact you.

  10. In Spain a septic tank must have CE certification - eg EN 12566-3.
Does the law in Spain also require that a septic tank has a test report from the European PIA Testing organization?

    • In Spain, the septic tank must be allowed by the hydrographic confederation where it must be installed.
Any hydrographic confederation in Spain has the authority to confirm the septic tanks that can or cannot be installed, and ask the certification that they consider to put a tank in the location, and how to use the water that must be evacuated.

  11. Good afternoon, I'm looking at your models and I don't know which one to decide on, especially by capacity. I have to install a pit for a rural house, only for the weekend. It will be used from Friday to Sunday, the rest of the days being empty. Its capacity is 25 people those 3 days. Which pit with a biological filter do you recommend?

    • Septic tanks are theoretically studied for regular use by people. If a use of 25 people is to be used simultaneously, or there is a possibility of it, it would be necessary to use several pits. A house for 25 people must have many water evacuation exits so that everything goes to a single pit. I think that the installer should study this especially, since these pits have an inlet of 110mm of pipe, to see if it is capable of covering the entire evacuation of water in a single pipe.

  12. Hello, I want to buy a non-developable land in the Sierra de Madrid, area of the upper apple trees, what septic tank would be the ideal one, thinking that it would give 3/5 daily use and that it could be used for irrigation without any risk, and that its emptying would be annual . Thank you

    • Good,
The model of the pit (total oxidation or biological filter) has to be defined by the hydrographic confederation of the area since they are the ones who have to authorize the point of discharge of wastewater.
When you know, we will be happy to help you.

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.

  13. Good afternoon Mr.
I am from a town in the province of Granada (ALMUÑECAR)
I understand, and not if it is correct, that prior to having a septic tank for a home in rural areas, it is necessary to request and obtain a DUMP PERMIT from the provincial ENVIRONMENTAL Delegation.

Based on this, he would be very interested in knowing what type of septic tank is the most appropriate or the one that is granted the discharge permit more quickly. Biological filter? Total oxidation?

    • Good,
For the discharge of wastewater into the subsoil, we believe from experience that the one who has the authority over authorization is the hydrographic confederation of your area, not the environment. These will tell you what physical and chemical characteristics the water should have at the point of discharge, and with this data we can offer you a total oxidation model or a biological filter.

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.

  14. Goodnight.
I am interested in the installation of an Epurbloc 119 2000 septic tank, for the removal of sewage from an office located in an area where there is no supply network.
Looking at the technical specifications, I see that this type of pit has two tubes on the inlet side, one for the effluent and the other for integrated ventilation, and on the other hand, an effluent outlet tube.
Is it necessary to install an outlet pipe and / or infiltration ditches?
Or on the contrary, would it be enough to close the outlet and periodically clean the pit? In this aspect we are limited by the distance for the execution of said infiltration ditches.
In the socket for integrated ventilation, is it necessary to install another pipe? Of what dimensions?

    • Good,
Septic tanks are not storage tanks, they are always full. The pit has an outlet tube so that the effluent that comes out accumulates in another reservoir for its removal and management or to infiltrate the ground through an infiltration well or a draining ditch.
Any questions please contact us at info@mundoriego.es

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.

  15. Hello good Morning. I have a house in the country and I need to install a septic tank for domestic wastewater, but I am not very clear about the model to choose. The number of inhabitants is 4 people.

    • Good,
The type of pit to be installed will be determined by the hydrographic confederation of your area, since they are the ones who give the permission to discharge the effluents from the house into the subsoil. This can be a total oxidation septic tank or a biological filter pit. For 4 people it can be in size from 1.500 to 2.000 l.

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.

  16. Hello Sergio, thank you for your prompt reply. But then, do I have to apply for a permit for the installation of a new septic tank? Actually I already have one, made for more than 20 years, what I want now is to install one of your models, let's say, inside the existing one. To do this, is authorization to the hydrographic confederation also necessary?

    • Good,
If your installation is more than 20 years old, I imagine that what you have is a cesspool where you discharge the effluent from the house. These facilities are no longer legal nor are they authorized as a dumping point. It depends on your community, these discharge points are or should be controlled since they can go directly to the groundwater.
Now, the blind well that you have when you open it, it is not very convenient for anyone to do it, this must be done by experienced personnel to avoid accidents.
If you want to have the discharge point authorized, you must request authorization from the hydrographic confederation of your area to give you the technical prescriptive of the model of the pit to be installed, since a total oxidation septic tank may be necessary to pour the effluent into the subsoil. .

We hope we have been helpful.
      The Mundoriego team.

  17. Good and happy holidays and congratulations for the work you do on this website. We have bought a house on a farm and the owners say that they installed a septic tank more than 10 years ago, they do not remember a model or anything, it is possible that a total oxidation has been installed or they were not yet for sale at that time ?

Another question: at the moment the septic tank has a pipe that pours black water into a stream...but to see you as very little...is it legal to pour that liquid into the stream? Or does the septic tank have to be emptied when it is full?

Is it possible to use the water by dripping irrigation of fruit trees?

    thank you very much

    • Very good,
We are sorry for the delay in replying. We were closed for holidays.
You can't tell by the years, but septic tanks have manhole covers for maintenance and sludge removal.
If it were a septic tank of total oxidation for so many years, it is normal that they have an aeration system, if they do not have, I do not think it is of total oxidation.
Dumping sewage into a stream must have the authorization of the hydrographic confederation of your area as an authorized discharge point, you can ask there if they have a record of the discharge point, in which case they have the data of the type of pit installed. But it is quite rare that ten years ago they did this process since the regulation and control of the discharge points is not very old. In my humble opinion, I do not think that the discharge they carry out is very legal, if it were, everything would be more documented.

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.

  18. Very good, I am from Cádiz, there are some regulations that indicate the minimum distance from the septic tank I can put another water tank. All the best.

  19. Hi, we recently installed a 2000L mundoriego septic tank with a biological filter.
My question is about the breathing outlet tube from the fossa. From the 110 breathing outlet I put an elbow with reduction to 90 and from there to the surface, leaving the 90 tube as it is in the air.
My question is if there is something to put at the end of the tube and minimize the odors that are given off by that vent.
I am concerned that neighbors may pick up that smell.
    Thank you!

  20. Hello, a few weeks ago I bought a house, which is connected to my neighbor's grave.
I would like to put my own septic tank, it should be aerial because I have no land to put it.
What would the outlet of water from that pit be like if it could not be by filtration to the subsoil?
    Thank you

    • The septic tanks that we supply are manufactured for buried or semi-buried use, but not aerial, sorry.

  21. Hey.

I would like to know in which regulations the separation of boundaries and adjoining houses is indicated, should be left for the construction of septic tanks, specifically in Galicia.

Can these be built in the basement of a house between party walls in a rural area, but does not have a plot to place it on it?

    Thanks and regards.

    • There is no specific regulation at the national level, unless we know about it.
For these questions, it is advisable to ask the hydrographic confederation where the land belongs.

  22. Hello, I have bought a house in the country. It has a manhole 30 meters from the house in a lower area of the land that is used as a vegetable garden connected to the house with 200 mm PVC pipe. I want to install a 2000 pit but I don't know if I can put it at those 30 meters, which is where the orchard is. What is the difference between those that have a biological filter and those that do not.

    • Good,
Yes, you can put it at the distance you want, that is to say that at those 30m it would be fine.
The difference between having a biological filter or not is the quality of the resulting water, the higher the treatment the water has a lower bacteriological load.

Any questions, please contact us at 655 96 81 54 or in the section of contact

  23. Good morning, I want to mount a septic tank for a house for two to four people, I think an epurbloc of 1500 would correspond, I would like to know if the inlet aeration tube to the pit is essential or it can work without it, since its elevation would be limited and thus avoid odors. Thanks.

    • The aeration tube is optional. In fact, it is not integrated with the septic tank, but there is a space next to the inlet pipe to be able to drill and install the aeration pipe in case you want to install it. But it is not essential.

  24. Hi, one question, what are the differences between an Anticliver 122 4000l pit and the Riuvent ep 1800, apart from the capacity, size, etc.

The returns are similar but the price almost triples.

What is the difference in prices? Differences in the control units? Pumping system? Etc.
    Thank you very much

    Greetings.

    • We do not sell the Riuvent pit, I could not tell you the difference with the Acticlever. Generally, the differences between some pits and others lie in the water purification performance, which is required by each Hydrographic Confederation, in the material with which it is manufactured and in its volumetric capacity. The performance of the Acticlever equipment can be found in the technical data sheet area of the article.

  25. Good afternoon:

I would like to know which cleaning and personal care products are compatible with a filtered septic tank.

    Thank you very much

  26. I have a septic tank and the ground no longer absorbs the water coming out of the pit what could it do.?
    Thank you

    • It is appropriate to ask the installer or the manufacturer of your pit so that, according to its characteristics, they will indicate the most suitable solution.
There are many types of trenches, and it is advisable to have these opinions before making a decision.

  27. Buenas tardes. I have surveyed several companies that sell septic tanks, apparently they have changed the regulations related to their approval and they do not want to sell me as a result of having to adapt to these new regulations. I would appreciate indications of where to obtain these and your comments and indications of how they have varied.

    • Good afternoon,
Regarding the regulation of septic tanks, To our knowledge there is no change. The regulation continues to be UN-12566. Our septic tanks comply with these regulations.

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.

  28. On an island, with a bilge or septic tank, that is not emptied periodically and that can eliminate discharges to the sea, what permits are needed?

    • Good,
That varies depending on the autonomous community. Ask at your Town Hall and at the hydrographic confederation in your area.

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.

  29. Hello!
    I have a question...
I bought a house and there is an unused grave because it is many years old.
I would like to know if I can put a pool in that space. I don't know if it is possible to put weight on the space that the pit occupies.
I do not want to dig but to place a pool of those that go on the lawn but, I want to do a work around it with cement and bricks or stones to decorate it.
    Do you think it's possible?

    • We would not know how to answer, since these are questions that an installer must solve by seeing in situ the viable options or not to occupy that space with the use that it has already had.

    • Pit cleaning should be done by a professional.
The gases that are generated inside a pit are very toxic, and emptying and cleaning must be done with suitable protective equipment for this task.

  30. Hello, I have a septic tank where I had to make a hole and one meter from the ground I already had water, so I put a watertight septic tank. The problem is that now with the rains the septic tank at the bottom has bent and if sand is thrown around it so that it will be well compacted, a concrete box should have been made or something. how can I solve it

    • Watertight pits are not a solution to the water table. Watertight is because it does not have a water outlet, only an inlet. Evacuation is only by means of the upper caps through pumping.
If you have such a high water table, it is not advisable to install a septic tank, due to the pressure of the water.

  31. I have no answer. I have a question: can a septic tank be installed for a building with 15 apartments 100 m from the beach? .

    • As a power, it is possible, but a preliminary study of the water table must be carried out, to see how much can be excavated for the installation of the pit or a team of pits if it is for many homes.

  32. Good afternoon, my question is, can the septic tank be built next to the electric light socket?

    • Good,
We cannot answer your query, that is the responsibility of the architect who directs the execution of the work.

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.

  33. Good afternoon.
My neighbor has put in a septic tank with the idea of using its outlet for irrigation.
The problem is that we are under them, so that "water" will surely reach our walls and plants. Is it legal to irrigate us with residual water?
There should be a minimum distance between the drainage area and our wall. Who can we claim/consult?
Thank you very much in advance

    • Good afternoon,
Those responsible for the use of water are the hydrographic confederation of their area.
We send you the link by mail so you can find out which is your confederation and the contact.

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team

  34. Hello, I have a plot of land in Yuncos (Toledo) in an urbanization far from the urban center, which has a septic tank that was built about 40 years ago. The problem I have is that this pit is about 50 meters from my land and the water it pours goes into a small dry stream, generating odors and mosquitoes in an unbearable quantity. Should that discharge be piped instead of out in the open and so close to private property? Thank you.

    • Good,
The water coming from a house should never go outdoors, it should be connected to a sewage network or make an infiltration well. Despite what we have told you, the powers of the waters belong to the hydrographic confederation of your area, they are the ones who should tell you what to do with those waters.

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.

  35. Hello, we just bought a house in a rural area without sanitation that has a 15-year-old septic tank, the problem in this area is that the soil is clay and the pits do not drain, so all the houses have pumping systems to relieve them . We are looking for alternatives to improve the situation and we are wondering if it is possible to install a total oxidation pit in this type of soil with a pumping system to relieve it frequently and if the water resulting from this relief would be purified?

    • Good,

The pit has no problem with the type of soil, it is independent. The outlet water would be purified but not disinfected, so its use has to be accordingly. That is to say, there is no problem with installing a septic tank, but be careful with using that water since it would not be suitable for consumption.

  36. Hello, good, I would like to know if the aeration tube of my septic tank is mandatory, that is, if it affects performance in any way since it gives off a terrible smell and I would also like to know if there is the possibility of burying it and taking it further from the house Thank you

    • Good, the aeration tube is necessary because if it were not there, the fermentation gases would have nowhere to enter and exit and the pit could collapse. You have different options:
      - You can take it to the distance you want, the most convenient thing is to take it to the front of the house and raise it to the height of the chimney.
      - You can install an active carbon filter for 110 pipes, you can find it on our page.

      Thank you very much,
      The Mundoriego team

  37. After reading many comments it is clear to me that before doing something you have to ask for a permit from the corresponding Hydrographic Confederation, which seems to be the one that will indicate, if permission is given, what to put. It is not very easy to fill out all the forms they ask for. However, lost in this world of papers, we will do something. Regardless of what the CHtajo say, in my case I have bought a house, the previous owners did not have any type of pit (neither electric light, only 12v batteries), being a land of several hectares and isolated in the middle of the field that receives water from a tank (800 liters) that is filled with water from an aerial spring, it is not a well. The use will be sporadic of 2 or three people between June and September with an approximate occupation that we could estimate in a total use of 60 days 1 person per year, (or 30 days 2 people which would be the same) there is a toilet and a kitchen. there is no rainwater to mix with human discharges. In this situation, what could be the septic tank and the recommended type... Very grateful for your information to the team at mundoriego.

    • Good!
The most advisable is the total oxidation pit, in its case without the need for electricity, since it is the maximum that the confederation could require.
But given the case you are telling us about, perhaps you would be interested in installing a sealed deposit and managing the withdrawal with an authorized company.
We hope we have helped you, thank you for your comment!

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.

  38. Hello, I am looking for a solution to purify the water in a toilet and a sink. It is a small bathroom in a farm, where its use will be sporadic. I am not able to locate a "small" prefab septic tank. You have something for something "so" simple". The area does not have a sewage system (public sanitation). Thank you very much

    • The smallest septic tank we supply is 1.000 litres.
We understand that it would be enough for you, since the excess water from the pit would infiltrate the land if the Hydrographic Confederation allows it on your land.
The waste generated in the pit would be too little for that use.

  39. Goodnight. I am living in a rural house that is not connected to the sewage system and I would like to put a septic tank of about 2000 liters for 4 people but the water table is at 80cm, so most of the pits I see would protrude. Is it possible what stands out? Can the recommended cement bed be made 10cm above the water? And how can I find out which Hydrographic Confederation I belong to and how to contact them?
Thank you very much for everything beforehand. All the best.

    • Good!
With the water table at 80cm, we advise you to study the option of installing the septic tank superficially, to introduce the sanitary water to the septic tank you can install a manhole with a bilge pump as is done in the sonados of houses. To solve the infiltration of treated water into the ground, you will have to use a surface infiltration system through drainage pipes. If your discharge is directly to the water table, we advise you to install a total oxidation pit since this type of purification will surely be required by the hydrographic confederation of your area.
As for the confederation that corresponds to you, we cannot know, you will have to go to the town hall and in urban planning they will be able to indicate that information.

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.

  40. Hello. I have a single-family home in Vizcaya built 54 years ago and equipped with a septic tank. Condo was built was somewhat removed from the urban area, but is currently integrated into it. Is it forbidden for my house to continue working with the septic tank? Do I have to cancel it and carry out the work of hooking up to the municipal sanitation network?
    Thank you very much.

    • Good morning,

As long as you have access to the public domain sewage network, it is a priority to connect to it, since the purification treatment carried out on urban wastewater is more effective than that carried out in a septic tank.

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.

  41. Hello
I am evaluating the installation of wastewater treatment plants with total oxygenation, they would ask, my hydrographic confederation is from the insurance company. Since I requested the installation, when could I install it? They told me that it takes 1 year to issue the discharge license? Then I can't install it and use it for up to 1 year?
I've searched the internet but can't find the deadlines, which would affect me, can you help me???
    Thank you

    • Good,
We cannot guarantee the response time to the request. We also do not know if it is legal to use the septic tank before obtaining the urban wastewater discharge point authorization.

The only thing that we can assure you is that the total oxidation septic tanks that we would supply meet the requirements and instructions required by the Segura Hydrographic Confederation on its website, and as long as the equipment is installed according to the manufacturer's technical specifications.

We provide you with the link of the total oxidation models:
      https://mundoriego.es/comprar/fosas-septicas-osmosis/fosas-septicas/fosa-septica-oxidacion-total/

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego team.

  42. Good morning,
What regulations indicate that the cleaning and emptying of a septic tank must be carried out by a duly approved company?

    • The water law of each Spanish autonomous community indicates that the septic tanks must be emptied periodically by an authorized manager, using individual protection systems for the management of the wastewater generated by the activity. These laws are endorsed by the BOE. We recommend consulting the Hydrographic Confederation that manages wastewater on your land, and they inform you first-hand.

  43. Hi. As part of the total renovation of our cada de campo our builder (who we are increasingly dissatisfied with) is installing a new septic tank to replace our 'black hole' drainage/sewer system. We are concerned that he has only installed an inflow pipe and a ventilation pipe. The outflow is sealed. He says that the local laws do not allow water to exit the septic tank. Can this be right? We are very concerned that the tank will need emptying every few months. Thanks in advance for your advice.

    • Legislation of septic tanks depends on the hydrographic confederation that belongs to your house.
You have to ask them for the management of the residual water that exits the septic tank, and if they don't allow you to exit this residual water under earth, you will have to empty it as soon as it is full.
In that case, we advise you buy a big one, or many big ones linked, depending on the people who are going to use it.

  44. Hey.
I would like you to tell me if it is possible to put a watertight septic tank on the surface in the basement of the house. I have plenty of space and that floor is not connected to the rest of the house. This could save me the work of installing the pit. My question is whether being on the surface could have problems with odors or the activated carbon filter would neutralize them.
    Thank you very much.

    • Septic tanks must be buried or semi-buried.
The continuous inflow and outflow of water generates a displacement movement of the pit.
For this reason, the pits are made to be buried, since the ground absorbs the movement.
Regarding the smells, with a tube with a chimney as a chimney with a carbon filter you should not have a problem.

  45. In the urban area of Chiclana, I bought a detached house 22 years ago. I ran into the inconvenience that in order to connect to the general sewerage network, I had to pump this waste through a pump, since the levels of the general sewage system were above of my house, bearing me with all the expenses of maintenance and electric current. They told me that in two years the sewage system would pass under my house and that way I could hook myself up. 22 years have passed and as of today they are putting the promised sewer system in front of from my house. The problem is that if I want to connect to it I have to pay €6.000. It's incredible. I paid 22 years ago for the sewerage that the builder had the obligation to connect to it, all the costs of maintenance, breakdowns and electricity. What the Ayto de Chiclana does is legal, where there are thousands of illegal houses without water and with septic tanks without order or concert and contaminating grandiose areas of this town. I HAVE TO PAY AND BASED ON IF I ALREADY PAY THIS ON ITS DAY .Thank you

    • Regarding the legislation on water discharges in Spain, all of them are regulated under the Hydrographic Confederation that belongs to each territory, (we understand that the Guadalquivir in Chiclana).
We recommend contacting the Confederation directly, explaining your problem and that they try to give you a solution according to the situation in which your home is located.

  46. Hello, I am going to buy a chalet and I am concerned that the vent pipe is located in the fence of the house. About 5 meters from the house. What risks do you have from the gases that are emitted? The tube is about 4 meters high. Thanks

    • Good morning,

The ventilation tube is necessary to evacuate the gases that are generated inside the septic tank, product of the fermentation of the organic matter when it is digested by the bacterial flora.

It is not convenient to breathe these gases because of their composition (methane gas, hydrogen sulfide, etc.) and also because of the smell. It is convenient that it exceeds the level of the building, chimney style, since the gases tend to rise and in this way there will be no risk of inhaling them.
To reduce the odor problem, you can also implant active carbon anti-odour filters.

      Sincerely,
      The Mundoriego Team.

  47. Hello. I live in the campsite and need to install the septic tank. At the moment we have a well installed. What is the correct procedure to go about this please.

    • Correct procedure is to get in contact with the Hydrographic Confederation of the place where it will be installed, and they will explain to you the different tanks that you can use and the management of residual waters in that place. Not ll the tanks can be installed in all the places, they are the ones that can allow you to use the correct ones.

    • Hi!

If you want to install a septic tank in Spain, you must request information on the type of equipment to be installed and a discharge point authorization from the hydrographic confederation of your area. You can find a technical engineer or architect in your municipality to help you with the process.

      Best regards!

  48. Good afternoon, I live in Portugal and work in the environment area. I would like to know if the pits with total oxidation or biological filter need to be clean / evacuated and how much time.
    Thank you

    • Total oxidation septic tanks must be emptied once a year, since the solid and fatty parts remain decomposed in the tank as sludge, and must be evacuated periodically.
The water does pour clean from the outlet, but the sludge generated must be evacuated into the pit as in a normal pit.

  49. Good morning, I have a country house where the ground is muddy and makes it difficult for liquids to permeate in such a way that the septic tank is quickly saturated. What dou you recommend?

    • We recommend that you store the wastewater that comes out of the pit in a sealed tank, and that an authorized manager empty the tank when it is full.

      Sincerely, the Mundoriego team.

  50. The municipality of Dénia demands a connection to the public sewer or if not close, a total oxidation septic tank. Without it they will not submit a second occupancy license when selling a property. The weird thing is that they also require a contract with a cleaning company that it will be emptied every month! On your site I read that the tank is always full to function correctly and the waste water that comes out is clean and can be used in your garden. This is contradictory. If the tank needs to be emptied every month (very costly by the way) why change the tank to Total oxidation? Might as well keep the old one if nothing is going in to the ground….

    • The total oxidation septic tank must be emptied when it has reached its maximum sludge capacity. An annual emptying of sludge is recommended, which has to be carried out by an authorized company.

On the other hand, only the water from total oxidation can be reused for irrigation, as long as it is ornamental plants (lawn, hedges) and by underground irrigation, never by sprinkling; It cannot be volatilized because it could spread any bacteria, infection, virus, etc. It can never come into contact with food or be used for human consumption.

      Sincerely, the Mundoriego team.

  51. Good afternoon, I have a 1500-liter biological septic tank installed, since 2004, as well as the discharge authorization from the Guadalquivir hydrographic confederation since 2004,
And I have received a letter from the Guadalquivir Hydrographic Confederation, saying that discharges into groundwater must be eliminated, and that I adopt some solution, otherwise they could reject the authorization issued in 2004 and I am surprised that after 20 years, they can reject the authorization that was granted to me 20 years ago, thank you very much

    • From what he tells us, they do not ask him to increase the purification performance of the equipment so that the water he discharges is more purified, but rather they directly dictate eliminating the discharge of water onto the ground. Therefore, the solution you have is to install a watertight pit that must be emptied by an authorized waste manager.

The Hydrographic Confederation can reject your authorization if they have decided not to allow any more discharges of water onto the ground.
These are issues of each Hydrographic Confederation, where the legislation is dictated particularly by each one.

We only indicate the solution that they are forcing you to follow due to their decision not to dump any residual water into the subsoil.

      Sincerely, the Mundoriego team.

  52. Hello, I want to install a brick septic tank, 3 meters deep x 2 meters wide x 2 meters long. My question, will the water vaporize or would I have to call over time to have the wastewater removed? It is a rustic plot of land, I have no neighbors, thank you.

    • The water that comes out of the septic tank infiltrates into the ground, while sludge accumulates inside the tank.
This sludge, when it fills the pit, is what an authorized waste management company has to remove.

      Sincerely, the Mundoriego team.

  53. Hello good morning. We are 5 people and we have the question of whether to install a pit with a 2000L or 3000L filter. Is there anything wrong with oversizing the pit? I say this because now there are 5 of us living there, but in the future there will be only two of us in the house.
    Thanks in advance.

    • Good,
The septic tank is sized according to the number of equivalent inhabitants.
If you choose a pit model for 5 equivalent inhabitants and then there are 2 in the home, it does not influence the operation of the pit, since there is no problem with oversizing it.

For any other questions, contact us at email info@mundoriego.es

      Sincerely the Mundoriego team.

  54. We need help and technical advice for a tourist camp of up to 100 people.

Although there will always be someone at the campsite year-round, occupancy of the 100-person campsite will only be seasonal, from April to October. We need help selecting a system that can cope with volume variations and long periods of underutilization.

One of the challenges we face is the type of soil. The land was used as a quarry and most areas have stone, sand or gravel soil. Can a system work with a filtration system that discharges liquids into this type of soil or will we have flooding? Wouldn't we be better off with a closed septic tank, for example?

Our land is located in Galicia and is subject to approval by Aguas de Galicia.

    I hope we talk soon.
    All the best

    • Good,
We cannot help you, since the design you propose is determined by the Hydrographic Confederation of your area. If you want to pour the water onto the ground, it will indicate the model and size of the pit.
Regarding storage, you would have to estimate it based on how many times you want to remove the stored water, since we cannot estimate the consumption of 100 people.

      Sincerely the Mundoriego team.

  55. I HAVE A TOTAL OXIDATION PIT INSTALLED IN VALENCIA ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO
THE ISSUE IS THAT IT CREATES UNPLEASANT SMELLS AND I HAVE REALIZED THAT IT DOES NOT HAVE A VENTOR

    IT IS NECESSARY??

    WHAT SOLUTION COULD BE MADE?

    THANKS IN ADVANCE

    • Good,
If you have purchased it from us, could you tell us what model of septic tank you have?
Contact us at info@mundoriego.es and we will try to solve your problem.
      Sincerely, the Mundoriego team.
