Irrigation pumps, what are they and how many types are there?

All the irrigation pumps, as can be assumed, are tools that are responsible for supplying the flow of water necessary for the irrigation of our plantations. There are different types and also other details that should be known about them.

Irrigation pumps are devices that supply 'force' so that the flow of water moves where we want it to go. A very interesting feature is that it allows us to determine very precisely the pressure at which we want it to circulate, so control is almost total.

Since these are tools that supply force so that the flow of water moves, we understand that they will need a part that allows them to generate it, such as a motor, for example. So, based on the energy source they use to function, we find different types of irrigation pumps.

Motorbombas

These irrigation pumps use liquid fuels for their operation since they integrate a combustion engine. Generally, the fuel is usually gasoline for those with little power and diesel for those with more.

Electric pumps

These irrigation pumps work by means of a single-phase or three-phase electric motor depending on the power that is required in them.

The preference is always the installation of electropumps because they are cheaper, however, for it to be possible, the land must have an electric current supply, something that does not always occur.

Based on the suction height they have, we also find submersible pumps that are used in reservoirs when the suction height is high; and non-submersible pumps that are installed on the surface of the ground when the suction height is low or non-existent.

Depending on the position of the drive shaft, we also find horizontal irrigation pumps, which are generally used to supply very high flows with low pressures, and vertical pumps that supply water at high pressures.

These are the basic classifications and the main characteristics of the different irrigation pumps. Don't know which one to choose? You have doubts? Contact us and we will advise you on the best solution depending on your specific objectives and the characteristics of the land where you need to install the irrigation pump.
