Even crop lovers can have a greenhouse if they wish. The reason is that these can be done on a small scale as well. Of course, whatever size they are, they will need an irrigation system. Are you wondering what they should be or what types exist? In this post we tell you everything you need to know about irrigation in greenhouses.

Types of irrigation systems in greenhouses

The different types of irrigation systems in greenhouses are the following:

- Irrigation with micro-sprinklers

- Irrigation with diffusers

- Underground irrigation

- Drip irrigation

- Hose irrigation

Let's take a closer look at each of them.

Irrigation with micro sprinklers

These are very small sprinklers emerging from the ground that, depending on the pressure they have, can launch water up to 2 meters away from the ground. There are mobile types that are placed at the end of a hose and move to cover the entire field. Micro-sprinkler irrigation is generally suitable for sandy soil types.

Irrigation in greenhouses with diffusers

Diffusers are quite similar to sprinklers and are used for greenhouse irrigation in narrower areas. The water pressure in them is quite efficient since it is regulated manually.

Underground watering

It is currently the most widely used type of irrigation in greenhouses. These are hoses that are buried in the ground and have micro-perforations through which the water comes out. They are usually buried about 10 or 50 centimeters deep to ensure that the water reaches the root of the crop directly. The depth with which it is buried will depend on the type of soil.

Drip irrigation

What is intended with this type of irrigation is to place the water outlet right at the foot of each plant. There are several types: button and integrated. The latter are located in the same pipeline. The most used are usually the non-self-compensating integrated ones because they are easier to obtain and have a more accessible price. The great benefit of this greenhouse irrigation system is that it saves a lot of water. It is also beneficial for the crop, because it maintains a constant level of humidity, preventing puddles from forming.

Hose irrigation

It is a manual irrigation system, as you are surely already imagining. It is not highly recommended for several reasons: the applied water is not controlled very well, it implies a lot of effort on the part of the person in charge and the optimal uniformity in irrigation is not achieved. If the hose is not very good, folds or kinks often form that interrupt the flow of water and waste a lot of time correcting them.

The truth is that there are many things you can grow in an urban garden. We could, in fact, make you a very long list. But each orchard has its own characteristics. There are those who have a very large or small space, who have a piece of land or who must create that land through pots and other tools. Today we want to advise you on what to plant in urban gardens with low light.

The majority of urban gardens are on terraces. That is to say, people usually use the spaces that we have in our gardens or terraces to plant some things. The point is that, depending on how our space is oriented, we will have more or less light. This is something that we will have to keep in mind so as not to waste time, since there are plantations that require a large amount of light and certain temperatures.

The same does not happen with the wind or the rain, which, although they are important factors, can be corrected in excess or defect, in the case of rain, in different ways. The negative effects of wind, for example, can be prevented by the use of stakes or by the use of windbreaks to protect plantations. Now, what to plant in an urban garden with low light? These are the best ideas.

What not to plant in a garden that will receive little light?

Perhaps by answering this question we will solve beforehand the doubt that you may be asking yourself. In general, if we do not receive enough natural light in our garden we are going to be limited in relation to the harvest of plants with fruit such as aubergines, tomatoes, cucumbers, melons or peppers, to name a few examples.

The point really isn't that you can't plant them. Many of them you can do it. The problem lies mainly in the result because at harvest time you will realize that they have come out quite weak. Without light and heat, it is impossible for these types of plants to grow strong enough.

What you can plant in an urban garden with little light

Here is good and bad news. The good news is that you can grow these plants with a guarantee of success. The bad news is that to plant many of them you will not be able to use a seedbed, but you will have to buy seedlings directly. Here we leave you the list of what you can plant in an urban garden with low light.
