PVC pipes are the most used at a general level and offer a long list of advantages over copper pipes, the second most used. These pipes have gradually increased in popularity to become the first choice for drinking water supply networks, rainwater and irrigation systems.

Plastic pipes are the cheapest and, among other things, offer the advantages of being lighter and having great insulating power, which is why they are used in public and private buildings for water management.

There are several types of plastics: polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyethylene are the most used due to their versatility. Polyethylene is very suitable for gas distribution networks. There is also polypropylene that is used for pipes without pressure. As can be seen, these are economical and very versatile solutions, although they are most often used in canals or water distribution networks, such as in irrigation systems.

PVC pipes are very light, which makes their handling and transport very easy. They require very little maintenance and do not transmit any odor or flavor to the content they support and transport. They have excellent fire behavior because, in fact, they are not combustible, they have lower thermal conductivity than metal pipes, so they do not influence the liquid they transmit and they withstand high pressures very well.

Another great advantage of PVC pipes is that they allow pipes to be made without the need for joints, which significantly reduces the risk of leaks. They also allow great economic savings by reducing costs both in the acquisition of the material, as well as in storage and in carrying out works when it comes to using PVC pipes to protect underground cables, since their installation and removal can be done in a simple way without the need to open any of the routes.

Copper pipes, for their part, have practically the same advantages as PVC pipes, although their cost is higher and for their use if it is necessary to make joints. These pipes may be preferred for drinking water supply systems since, due to their characteristics, they limit and minimize the risk of bacteria proliferation. However, PVC pipes show greater and better performance in irrigation systems where 100% of their advantages can be used, including economic savings due to their lower cost, among others.
